Responding to a Call: Living with Eternal Vision

Everyone, at some point or another, asks deep questions about life. Many may ask "What is the purpose of my life?" or "How can I make my life meaningful?". For me, the answer to those questions is to respond to the call in Matthew 28:18-20.

Then Jesus said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age.
When I say respond, I really mean take action, not just read words on a page, but make them come alive, and DO what I have been called to do. I truly believe that by living with an eternal vision, life is so much more fulfilling.

Too often, as we all know, in America, we are inclined, even driven to focus on personal achievement, success, wealth, upgrading our homes, our fashions, our vehicles, our electronics, maintaining our appearances and ensuring that our kids are in the best schools and involved in so many activities we can't see straight. We are running so hard and so fast (literally, if you have kids so involved and need to be driven to all of these places) that we miss the purpose of our lives. We forget to take action. I know, I have been there. I have found myself so caught up in life that I forgotten to respond to that call.

There is a hurting world that needs us to fight for them, bring aid to their hurting people, and share the love of Christ in the process. How amazing would it be if we could just see past our "Americanized Lifestyles" and recognize the devastation and hopelessness so many people experience and take action? What kind of joy would it bring to us, as Christians, to be a part of someone else's recovery or spiritual transformation?

I'm tired of fighting to "fit in" here in America. I am disturbed by the thought of myself trying to attain so many statuses or desiring for my kids to be educated in high priced schools and be involved in as many activities as we could get into. What purpose does that serve? Does it ensure that my kids get into the best college and obtain a high paying career? Maybe. But will it ensure that their marriage lasts for a lifetime? Or,will it ensure that they don't experience any hardship in life? Probably not. Setting goals are great, going to college and having a career is excellent. But, living for eternity is where true joy comes from. Learning to live life in a way that impacts others and brings them joy, healing and the Gospel is so much more rewarding. So, for me, its time to respond to that Call.

How then, do we live for eternity and respond to the call? Allow the Word of God to transform your life. Begin to view the the Bible as an Activity Book, not just an inspirational book. Follow his commands and watch Him transform your life and the lives of those around you. Look for opportunities to serve your community and your family and seize them. You will be personally changed and forever blessed.
